Description: KYA designed and created a minimal water landscape utilizing synthetic shrubs, replica plants and live trees.
Background: Santa Ana Unified School District approached KYA with a request to transform and modernize the entrance of the school and front parking lot. They required a design to also facilitate the reduction of man hours, maintenance and water usage.
Method of Approach: Based on KYA’s cost effective Bed-In-A-Box package, we expanded the scope to accommodate aesthetics and variety while maintaining the budget. Utilizing planter boxes and a retaining wall, a variety of replica plants were installed requiring no irrigation. Rows of synthetic boxwood were also laid along every median and perimeter of the parking lot. With the addition of a few live trees the transformation of Willard was complete.
Results: The new entrance, including the parking lot and school frontage, is now visually striking and able to withstand high foot traffic, greatly reduce water usage and minimize maintenance.
