Grand Opening of CUUBE™ Cafeteria Building for Sierra Vista Elementary

Arvin, California - March 11, 2024 - KYA Services, a leading construction firm specializing in innovative indoor and outdoor modernizations and steel structures, is delighted to announce the grand opening of Sierra Vista Elementary School's new CUUBE™ cafeteria, kitchen and multi-purpose building. The new facility replaces a cafeteria building constructed in 1952. It features increased square footage, restroom facilities and indoor dining space. It also includes a built-in stage that will be used for student presentations, performances and assemblies.
The cafeteria project was part of a multi-year facilities improvement plan made possible by two school bonds (Measures E and G) passed by Arvin voters in 2014 and 2018. Through the unwavering support of the Arvin community, these measures, which received overwhelming approval, allocated funds to address critical infrastructure needs ensuring that Arvin K-8 school buildings are equipped with modern facilities conducive to learning.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at 8:30 AM at Sierra Vista Elementary School in Arvin, California. The event was a celebration of collaboration, dedication and the power of community support. In attendance were esteemed guests including members of the Board of Trustees, district administration, KYA Services, school staff, enthusiastic students and community members.

The grand opening ceremony commenced with remarks highlighting the collaborative efforts that made the project possible. Superintendent Georgia Rhett and Cafeteria Director Dee Abbema spoke to the power of having equitable facilities and how Sierra Vista’s new building will help the community continue to thrive and better the lives of their students. Board of Trustees President Wendy Gonzalez, Chief Business Officer Chris Davis and other members, alongside district administration and school leadership, gave thanks to the community who voted for the bonds and who helped their vision of a safe, modern multipurpose space come to fruition.
The event featured a lively cheerleading performance by Sierra Vista Elementary School students, showcasing the vibrant spirit of the school community. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to explore the innovative features of the CUUBE™ cafeteria building, including its spacious dining area, advanced kitchen facilities, and energy-efficient design.
The CUUBE™ building used for the new space is an innovative steel structure featuring state-of-the-art SidePlate® Moment Frame technology. Departing from traditional methods, CUUBE™ boasts a weld-free construction process, surpassing seismic and wind shear code requirements with ease. Its robust design, versatility and projected 100-year lifespan position it as a reliable community refuge during seismic events and natural disasters.
