El Rancho Unified School District Breaks Ground on Multi-Purpose Room Modernization Project

ERUSD Takes Significant Step Toward Modernizing School Facilities with New MPR Upgrades, Sustainable HVAC Systems and Enhanced Student Comfort

Pico Rivera, CA – El Rancho Unified School District (ERUSD) officially launched its Multi-Purpose Room and Shade Structure Modernization Project with a ceremonial groundbreaking event on Thursday, March 20, at Rivera Elementary School. The event marked the beginning of a major transformation across several schools in the district.

The Board of Education, the superintendent and other key district officials, city leaders, students and KYA executives—who partnered with the district to execute the project—gathered to celebrate the milestone. The event featured a stage for guest speakers from both the district and KYA, as well as beautiful balloons in the district’s colors, creating a festive atmosphere. A photo backdrop was set up for the groundbreaking ceremony, complete with gold shovels, while easels displayed renderings of the future MPR rooms.

The project will modernize the Multi-Purpose Rooms (MPR) at each of the eight elementary schools, providing a state-of-the-art design tailored to each campus’ colors, themes and logos. A highlight of the modernization is the installation of a new, sustainable HVAC system. The system is designed not only to heat and cool the spaces but also to enhance air quality by circulating fresh, filtered air from the outside and removing CO2 and stale air—a crucial upgrade.

Additionally, the project includes the installation of new shade structures, adding both functionality, comfort and safety for students and staff. These upgrades are expected to improve the overall learning environment and provide long-term value for the eight elementary schools, three middle schools and continuation high school.

“Multi-purpose spaces are not just about providing a venue for school events–they serve as gathering places for the entire community,” said John Contreras, Board President of El Rancho Unified School District. “These spaces allow us to bring people together, create lasting memories and strengthen the bonds between our students, families and local residents. This modernization project is an investment in the future of our community, offering a space where generations can come together to celebrate, learn and grow.”

The MPR Modernization and Shade Structure Project is part of a larger district-wide initiative to modernize and expand facilities, ensuring students have access to state-of-the-art resources in a safe and comfortable setting.
